President Neil Albert Salonen and the entire UB community mourn the passing of Leo Nevas. Mr. Nevas attended UB for one year in 1929, and received an honorary degree in 2004. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of this extraordinary man. May his memory be for a blessing.

To the Nevas Family,
It was our honor and privilege to know Mr. Leo Nevas.
We were encouraged by his dedication to his work, his zest for life, his graciousness, his philanthropy, and his impeccable sense of style.
I was touched by Mr Nevas' generosity whenever I would request a donation for the Caring Cuisine Program of AIDS Project New Haven which feeds families affected/infected by HIV/AIDS in New Haven; he would gladly donate to the cause. His donation was never impersonal and was always accompanied by a note of inspiration and encouragement.
We'll miss seeing him around Colonial Green.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

It had been a beautiful, sunny day, but it was raining when Papu passed away, capturing the sentiment in the room. Papu was surrounded by his family and passed peacefully. Not a bad way to go save a heart attack while eating a bowl of ice cream.
Clearly Papu was a great man who touched many lives and whose acts of generosity are too numerous to count. He also had the brightest smile and gave the strongest (and I mean strongest) hugs. But, I believe that Papu would consider his greatest accomplishment to be his family and the bonds that he helped to forge between his grandchildren. Not many families can say that they get 20 people together every year, despite disparate schedules and long distances, to travel together and just "hang out". Nor can many families say that the lines between siblings, cousins, and friends are blurred into one.
But this is how it is in our family because of Papu, and I am so glad and so thankful. I may have married into the Nevas family, but thanks to Papu, Dave's brothers and cousins are my brothers, my cousins, my friends, my family.
